Fort Nightly is the first album the band White Rabbits produced after being signed back in 2007. WR would be a great band to get into because they're pretty active in the recording studio as well as touring, and consistently awesome with their sound. They have been releasing singles every year since their debut, and their second album, It's Frightening, came out in 2009. Supposedly, there is also a radio single that came out this year ("They Done Wrong/We Done Wrong") but I can't seem to find it.

What?? I still do wardrobe remix? Yeahh. This isn't what I wore today - teachers can't get away with this length, because of both rules and practicality - it's what I wore to a cookout at my dad's place on Sunday. My step mom is going to culinary school for pastry making and likes to use my sister and I as test subjects, so I expect you will be seeing my wardrobe pictures becoming plumper and plumper.

Dress: Charlotte Russe (Christmas gift from my mom last year; first time it's been worn!)

Vest: So old I don't really remember, but you know what? There is a good change I got it at Charlotte Russe as well...

The reason for my few and far between wardrobe posts is the fact that I am insanely bored taking them in my room. However, I don't really have time to set up my tri-pod outside every morning, and by the time I get home, I don't want the way I look to be recorded. (Middle schoolers wear your hair out, ya know??) Maybe I can enlist Alice's help and get her to shoot a few photos of me in the yard... I do have some awesome trees that would make a pretty background... I'm just kind of embarrassed about the whole my-neighbors-will-be -able-to-see-me thing, and I think Alice already thinks I'm a wierdo.

Ah well. I'll figure something out. :)

P.S. Does ANYBODY know how to get rid of that shadowy border around all my pics??? I removed all the blogger coding from around the image, as well as put a bit of HTML in my script that was supposed to do the job, but as you can see, they are persistently there. I hatehatehate them.

I know I mentioned this before, but I am capable of summoning an unusual amount of pep on Monday mornings. So for this week's media Monday, I decided to share the song I bopped around my room to this morning as I got ready for the new work week.

That's "The Start of Something" by Voxtrot. Voxtrot isn't one of my most favorite bands, and is often overlooked on my Zune; but "The Start of Something" (the band's first single) is still a fun beat to wriggle to when you're straightening your hair. =) By the time I get to Wednesday, though, I'll probably need good ol' Cee Lo Green to sing to me about running away so I won't actually do it. :/

And YES, this song is used in the Twilight soundtrack. No, that is not why it is here. My thoughts on Twilight: Cute story, easy reading that isn't amazingly well written, annoying fanbase. There. No obsession, but no hate either, because like I said yesterday, I can find anything to appreciate about any book. (Well...almost. I admit I haven't touched that steampunk novel since Saturday night.)

I didn't end up wearing what I thought I would...I re-wore an outfit I had already blogged about *gasp* *oh no* but tried out a little pattern mixing. Do you see it? Do you?? A rose patterned skirt with polk-a-dot tights! I feel so brave and adventurous! Especially when I consider how the kids react to any thing they consider out of the ordinary. Which means anything your average pre-teen would not wear. For instance...

"Is it really necessary to wear a belt every freakin day?" -K.G

"Do teachers have a rule that says their shirts have to be tucked in too?" - U.M.

"No. But it looks more professional." -Me

"Do surgeons have to tuck in their shirts? Because I'll only work where I can have my shirt untucked." -U.M.

Ah, the future of our world and their shenanigans.... I hope they look back and remember all the trouble they gave me when it's their turn to 'bring back the 80's.'

Here is a picture of the outfit I had really been planning on wearing. I recently fell in love with silk blouses, and picked this one up at a little hole-in-the-wall thrift store by my paintball field. Little did I know the trouble it would cause me... when I got it home and showed Daniel (my go-to fella for a man's outlook on my fashion choices) he made it quite clear that he would not be seen with me if I wore it.

Me: Taa-daa!

Daniel: *stares in horror* You look like Matilda's grandmother.

Me: Is she cute?

Daniel: Kelly. I understand that you want people to know that you are older than your students, but this is going to far.

Me: I don't care. I'm putting it on my 'to-wear' rack.

Daniel: (muttering) we'll see how long that lasts....

So. In light of Daniel's vehement rejection of something I thought was okay, my judgement has been called into question. (Thus the black box over my face.) I don't know if I'll ever work up the nerve to try it out in public, but hey. At least I got some alteration practice in. (Shortened the ugg-o 3/4 sleeves.) Opinions, anyone? (Before you form one, please note the little pearl necklace that is attached to the collar, and the adorable pearl buttons!

The kids in my class are ridiculous. I mean, seriously. I can't make a single move without them questioning my motives. Or wear a single outfit without them analyzing it. (Better hope they never find this blog. Sheesh.) Their comments today:

You know we know it's not a dress under there. It's a shirt tucked into a skirt.

Yes you were.

Yeah. You caught me. My goal as your teacher is to swindle you into believing my skirts are dresses.

My waist band is not "up high". It's on my WAIST.

Pesky little things.

Anyway, I was in quite a rush this morning, and took this photo mid 'pfffft'. My bangs are always falling into my face these days, and I've been telling myself almost every morning that 'today is the day to go for a trim'. But alas, tomorrow's photo will probably feature emo bangs as well.

I mentioned that I wasn't going to do themed days, but I find myself wanting to blab about more than just my outfits. (This is SUCH a narcissistic hobby!) So, I'd like to point your attention away from me for one minute, and listen to this Most Awesome Tunage. (Originally these were going to be my 'Media Monday topic.)

Not the most interesting video, but it was the best quality. It's funny, I didn't used to enjoy female singers at all, but lately, all I've wanted to listen to is this ridiculously catchy, not-overly-deep, every-girl-has-these-problems tunes. (This one happens to be the story of my love life right now, but I won't get into that sad, sad story.)

If 50s inspired pop isn't your thing, try this by one of my favorite bands EVER....the wonderful Metric. This band is getting some well deserved attention now that they have been featured on Twilight and the Scott Pilgrim movie.

(And my blog, of course.)

I have a zune pass and I loooove downloading obscene amounts of songs. Makes me feel like I'm getting my 15bucks worth.

Turntable-ism.

Oh, the day week I have had.

I'm not going to give any specifics, but, something very disappointing happened to me this week; quite a letdown. And it's made about a million times worse that I can tell that people at work are looking at me pityingly, and tiptoeing around the subject when I am around.

Still, negative emotions are much easier for a girl to deal with when she is wearing an outfit that makes her feel like Christina Hendricks in Mad Men. (Albeit a more teacherly version, of course.) I've always hated my curves, but today....today I definitely needed some 'look what you're missing out on' power, without it being over-the-top. C.H. is beautiful, busty and no one could ever call these outfits revealing; yet....

Hot damn!

She is officially my inspiration for fall: completely modest necklines, but landsakes, those curves! I attempted to mimic her you-could-follow-my-curves-straight-to-hell-and-back look, but I doubt I could ever come off even half as polished. (Second and third best things? Her perfect hair and makeup!)

So anyway, I got this vintage-y feeling shirt at H&M, and the skirt at Goodwill. I know I swore to buy nothing off the rack, but my excuse is that I have two girls from Taiwan living with me, they love the mall, and how can I be dragged through H&M and see a shirt this darling for $9 and NOT get it?? Clearly, I should get a mulligan.

Actually, I take back all my excuses. I felt bad about shopping for awhile, but after today, this shirt is a purchase I'll never regret. Feeling heartbroken? H&M has floral prints and puff sleeves that'll mend a girl right up!

Christian Hendricks attempt #2 will be tomorrow.

A boring update, which I will try and make up for with a song for every day of the week!

No poetry in this update: my creativity has been manifesting itself in a more tangible manner: clothing! :D Walmart is doing away with their fabric section... and while I'm sad that I wont have access to the little odds and ends I need when I'm sewing at 3am (because I WILL be that dedicated, I will I will), at least I got some excellent deals out of it. A four skirt pattern and everything I need to make one for just over $3! :D Picked up a few upcycling projects from the Salvation Army as well... we'll see how those work out. Now...if only I could figure out how to make one of these darling little things:
